The fourth of five consecutive all-star appearances on the way to an astounding 14 for Derek Jeter was the 2001 season, when the Yankees lost a heartbreaking seven-game Fall Classic to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 2001 playoffs for Jeter are probably best remembered for an unbelievable play where an out-of-position Jeter took a bad throw and flipped it to the plate to nab Jeremy Giambi. The architect of “The Flip” wore this Russell white knit button-down home jersey during that season. The blue pinstripe has an interlocking “NY” sewn to the left breast in blue tackle twill and a “2” sewn to the back in like fashion. An MLB silhouette logo is sewn to the base of the neck, a stunning “American League 100th Anniversary” patch adorns the right sleeve and the left front tail is home to tags that read “48”, “2” Extra Length” and “2001” for size, tailoring and year identifier. Moderate wear is evident including slight fraying on logo and numbers as well as grime in the collar. Along with a 2003 specimen also offered in this auction, it would comprise a stunning pairing of Derek Jeter game-used specimens. LOAs from Dave Miedema and Sports Investors.
