Larry's Magic Productions expanded its reach south here. But the connection between Magid and Joplin went back to Philadelphia in '68: "Janis Joplin appeared at the Factory for the first time right after Hendrix. When she showed up Friday afternoon, posters advertising his Thursday performance were still up all over the place. I went over to greet her. 'Why the fuck are all these Jimi Hendrix posters up?' Janis yelled. 'Where are my posters?' I had a soft spot for Joplin, despite her gruffness. The minute you saw her, you felt how she embodied the whole scene. She could be tender and sweet, and then equally rough. The next time I booked her band—Big Brother and the Holding Company—at the Factory, it was for seven shows in three days; she showed up with a 101-degree fever, slugged Southern Comfort for two days, and somehow played all her shows...brilliantly!" Measures 6x8 and displays frontally as NM with a strip of tape on the reverse.
