The Weiser Wonder! Graded 35 Good+ 2.5 by SGC. This phenomenal 1908-09 Rose Co. Postcards Walter Johnson is a remarkable early collectible of “The Big Train” picturing the legend at the outset of his prolific Hall of Fame career. The Kansas farm boy journeyed throughout the contiguous states before landing in the rural town of Weiser, Idaho. It was in Weiser where Johnson was discovered while playing for a local semi-pro team. It would not be long for the fireballer to become the ace for the Washington Senators over a 21-season career.
Only Three Graded by SGC! The oval portrait of the young hurler is framed by a gilt embossed bat-and-ball design. The black-and-white image itself is absent of creasing or other obtrusive wear. The lush diamond shaped field design exhibits moderate, but even corner wear. A moderate inch-long crease traces from the upper left edge through the bat and concludes near the top corner. Despite water staining noticeable along the bottom edge of the reverse, the correspondence section is absent of any writing, postage residue or cancellation marks.
