First Offered for Public Sale! The offered 1968 Topps Baseball Discs complete set of (28) players survives on an uncut sheet. Measuring 17-1/2 x 11-3/4”, this printing press artifact features (14) future Hall of Famers along with contemporary all-stars. The 1968 Topps Baseball Discs set was never released for public sale and was presumably intended to be a test issue of 2-1/4” color photographs placed on pinbacks. However, the idea never came to fruition and any specimen to have reached the secondary market was extracted from uncut material. Despite acute creasing resulting from folding along with several instances of interior spider wrinkling and abrasions to the silver foundation, the display piece still remains bright and attractive. Unless noted, all listed players are crease-free. Players include:
Top Row: (7 players, all have sustained significant creasing due to folding) with Killebrew, Santo, Carew, Mays, Mantle, Rose, Fregosi;
Second Row: (7 players) with Cepeda, Kaline, Torre, Yastrzemski (heavily creased), R. Allen, Freehan, Alley;
Third Row: (7 players) with Chance, Staub, Peters, Veale (creased), F. Howard, McComick (slight creasing), Monday (creased);
Bottom Row: (7 players, all varying degrees of creasing) with T. Davis, B. Robinson, Clemente, F. Robinson (extensive creasing resulting in tear), Aaron, Hargan, Osteen;
The left reverse displays two strips of rubber band residue.
