Former Red Sox outfielder Harry Hooper (d.1974) penned this ALS to Mrs. Eddie Collins. Dated March 25, 1951, the 5x7" booklet-style ALS is in response to Eddie Collins death that year. On the inside page, Hooper has signed ("9") underneath his salutation. Auction LOA from JSA.

Letter reads (in full):

My Dear Mrs. Collins,

We were shocked tonight to hear on the radio about Eddie. He was so much a part of my memories of Baseball that it is hard to realize he is gone. During our years together with the White Sox we became close friends and roommates. I have never met a stronger finer or a more strong character in or out of Baseball. Mrs. Hooper joins with me in extending to you and to Eddie Jr + Paul our deep and heartfelt sympathy and join in sharing your grief in the loss of our old friend "Cocky"/

Most sincerely,

Harry Hooper
