Make the winning score for this incredible piece of original comic book artwork. Featuring gridiron great Sammy Baugh, this storyboard was created by Tom Dover for a page in the Joe Palooka Vol. 2, #26 issue from November, 1948. This magnificent 14-1/4 x 20-1/2” original art page heads to the end zone in fine style, with dynamic graphics. Washington Redskins legendary QB Baugh is glorified in a series of humorous vignettes, including a caption that names him “Passing Maharajah of All Time”. The only signs of wear noted occur on the perimeter, including light age toning, pinholes at the top corners and professional editorial “blue pencil” markings. The artwork images and text remain extremely bold against a bright background and with the periphery framed and matted this piece will present like-new.
Also present is an original copy of the comic issue this artwork was created for, Joe Palooka Vol. 2, #26 (VG 4.0). Published by Harvey, this Gold Age book is a fine collectible in its own right, with strong colors, nice gloss, a tight spine and fairly supple cream-colored pages. Moderate soiling and a light stain are evident on the edges of the cover and there are moderate abrasions along the bottom edge, but considering the relative scarcity of G.A. issues, this example is a good bit better than average for the period.
